The best thing about the Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is the scene where Darth Vader is killing the rebels as they try to run away with the Death Star plans. That scene is brilliant! It turns out that we almost didn’t get that scene. Gary Whitta, the screenwriter for Rogue One originally pitched the idea of Vader being on Scarif.
“The version I pitched (but never wrote) had Vader on the Scarif beach single-handedly slaughtering his way through a Rebel blockade at the base of the Imperial tower. The version in the Raddus hallway works much better because it’s so contained, feels more horror than action.”
While it still would’ve had Vader slaughtering Rebels, I admit that the horror vibe was a lot better. I’m happy this was changed for the final cut.
