Pacific Rim 2 is coming in 2017

Guillermo del Toro has released a video in which he announces Pacific Rim 2 is officially moving forward, and that he is also developing an animated series for the franchise!

Since the first movie was released there was talk of a sequel, and that talk never stopped. Now the sequel is officially moving forward, and he’s working on it with screenwriter Zak Penn. I also love that he’s developing an animated series! That’s could be really awesome. In a recent interview with BuzzFeed the director had to say about the sequel:

“The characters I love will return. Raleigh, Mako, Newt, Gottlieb and who knows, maybe even Hannibal Chau – but we are taking them into a fresh territory that will display amazing sights and battles. The first film set the stage and now we’re ready to have a blast.”

According to THR it will be released on April 7, 2017.
