Disney and Pixar have revealed the teaser trailer for the new sci-fi animated film which is called Lightyear, focusing around the origins of Buzz Lightyear, the space ranger that inspired the beloved Toy Story character. The Lightyear teaser provides us with our first glimpse into some of the movie’s action-packed scenes as well as its visual tone and the famous character’s signature green-white space suit.
Featuring the voice of Marvel Cinematic Universe vet Chris Evans, the movie will be released in theaters on June 17, 2022. Its current theatrical release date will pit the movie against no direct competition, but it will be released in the same month as two other high-profile films including Jurassic World: Dominion, and Transformers: Rise of the Beasts.

Lightyear is a sci-fi action-adventure movie that is directed by Pixar animator Angus MacLane (Finding Dory). It is produced by Galyn Susman (Toy Story 4, Ratatouille).
The animated spin-off movie presents the origin story of Buzz Lightyear, the hero who inspired the toy—introducing the legendary Space Ranger who would win generations of fans.
The Toy Story franchise started with John Lasseter’s 1995 film which gave birth to 3 more sequels. It featured the voices of Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, Annie Potts, Don Rickles, Wallace Shawn, John Ratzenberger, and more. The films currently have a combined worldwide gross of more than $3 billion. The last two movies had both earned an Academy Award for Best Animated Feature.
