Paramount Pictures is currently developing a new film in their The Ring horror film franchise. The movie will be called Rings, Now Bloody Disgusting reporting, Movie will be a prequel, not a sequel as we initially thought.
Rings “takes place before the 2002 remake that starred Naomi Watts as a woman uncovering the mystery behind a haunted VHS tape. Rings will take place years before the creation of said tape and tell the origin of Samara’s reign of terror.”
This is one horror movie which actually gives me nightmares back in the day, There wasn’t any gore or extremely loud sound effects to make me jump my seat but the concept and the whole idea of the movie was quite terrifying. Now I am more excited about the prequel is simply because I want to see how this deadly evil tape actually came into existence. In the first film we learned about Samara’s tragic childhood in a flashback sequence, but there’s obviously more to her story and the creation of the tape. This is already giving me heebie jeebies.
The franchise is based on a series of Japanese films called Ringu, and in 2000 they released a movie called Ring 0: Birthday. That film takes place 30 years before their first film, and it tells the story of how Sadako (Samara) was murdered when she was 19 years old and became cursed.
Rings is being directed by F. Javier Gutierrez (Before the Fall), from a script written by Academy Award-winning screenwriter Akiva Goldsman. So far the only person cast in the movie is Matilda Lutz, and we don’t know who she’ll be playing.
The movie is set to be released on November 13th, 2015.
