Red Carpet Accessories: Wearable Details the Celebs are Showing Off

Red Carpet Accessories Wearable Details the Celebs are Showing Off 12

A gorgeous dress will always be eye-catching, but the accessories a celebrity chooses to complete their look with can bring just as much drama (and wit) to a red carpet look. Here are some of the season’s most drool-worthy accessories.

Red Carpet Accessories

Handbags
Standout handbags this spring included Kirsten Dunst’s perfect wicker bag by Ferragamo (at Cannes). Channeling Betty Draper, the purse had a tidy 50’s vibe. Also bringing vintage to her red carpet look was Helen Mirren, carrying an embroidered silk handbag to the White House Correspondents Dinner. For sheer playfulness, Chloe Sevigny stands out with her movie camera Chanel purse at (where else?) Cannes.

Necklaces
Diamonds snaking sinuously around the neck have taken literal form this year. Naomi Watts and Alessandra Ambrosia both wore classic Bulgari snake diamond necklaces around their throats and Charlize Theron wore a Cartier version (with diamonds AND emeralds) at Cannes. The snakelike/tie necklaces worn by Naomi Harris (Met Gala) and by Heidi Klum (Cannes) were the ultimate statement pieces this year as well. Naomi Harris’ necklace by Messika has also been seen on Beyoncé. Klum’s was by Lorraine Schwartz.

Brooches
Uma Thurman is singlehandedly reintroducing the statement brooch. At Cannes she wore a giant glittering heart atop a Schiaparelli dress. That was merely practice for the main event: the whopping eight inches of Cartier bird brooch perched on her shoulder for the Met Gala.

Glasses
Celebs these days are rocking plenty of stylish eyewear. After winning an Oscar, Leonardo di Caprio relaxed in McQueen Persol sunglasses on Instagram. Ever cool, Kristen Stewart sported a round style at Cannes. Rihanna favors heavy framed cat’s eye and Jackie O styles around town, but collaborating with Dior she has created a line of ultra-futuristic sunglasses straight out of our Star Trek fantasies. More vintage style frames seem to be coming back with places like All About Eyes offering tons of throwback sixties styles and unique shapes.

Headpieces
There never seem to be enough opportunities to wear a tiara, but Kate Bosworth took the chance with hers, a gorgeous Dolce and Gabbana version for the Met Gala. Meanwhile, the royals are keeping Britain’s millennials busy with Princess Eugenie at the Royal Ascot showing the world how a hat is worn. Her explosion of delicate feathers surrounded her head like a permanent confetti cloud.

This season’s best moments in accessorizing came from two fashion doyennes. Helen Mirren, beautifully dressed for the White House Correspondents Dinner, showed off her purple temporary tattoo, a sweet tribute to Prince. And The Greatest Moment in Sartorial Whimsy Award goes to Diane von Furstenberg appearing at the Met Gala, her head wreathed in iridescent butterflies. That is bringing your A-game!
