Exciting news for horror fans as the highly anticipated Silent Hill movie Return to Silent Hill is set to begin filming next month. The lead cast has been announced, with Jeremy Irvine, best known for his role in War Horse, and Hannah Emily Anderson, who starred in Jigsaw, taking on the main roles. The film will be helmed by Christophe Gans, the director of the original Silent Hill movie.
The movie’s plot revolves around James (played by Irvine), who is left heartbroken after being separated from his true love (Anderson). When he receives a mysterious letter calling him back to Silent Hill in search of her, he finds that the town has been transformed by an unknown evil. As James descends deeper into the darkness, he encounters terrifying figures, both familiar and new, and begins to question his own sanity as he struggles to make sense of reality and save his lost love.
Gans stated that Return to Silent Hill is a “mythological love story about someone so deeply in love, they’re willing to go to hell to save someone.” He expressed his delight at having Irvine and Anderson on board to take us on this journey into a psychological horror world that he hopes will both satisfy and surprise fans of Silent Hill.
Producer Victor Hadida also revealed that he and Gans have been working closely with their partners at Konami, as they update the video game, to create a version of Silent Hill for today’s theatrical audiences. While the iconic monsters will still be present, there will also be new designs. Hadida is confident that this new film, along with Konami’s updated game, will propel the franchise forward for years to come.
As a longtime fan of the Silent Hill franchise, this news is especially exciting. The world of Silent Hill has always been fascinating, and the first video game and movie adaptation captured my attention from the very beginning. With Gans back at the helm, I have high hopes for Return to Silent Hill. In fact, Gans’ first Silent Hill movie is still one of the best video game film adaptations that have ever been produced.
