Amazon Studios is partnering up with Ridley Scott to produce and develop a live-action Blade Runner series called Blade Runner 2099.
Scott is executive producing the new spic series, which will serve as a follow-up to the feature movie sequel Blade Runner 2049, which was released in 2017 and directed by Denis Villeneuve, and it was a brilliant movie.
Scott talked last year about this series saying that it was being scheduled as a 10 episode series, sharing, “We [have already] written the pilot for Blade Runner and the bible. So, we’re already presenting Blade Runner as a TV show, the first 10 hours.”
We’ve now learned that show is a sequel series set 50 years after the film sequel. I’ve been expecting to see the world of Blade Runner researched and explored more and I really hope this series catches the excellence of it in the same way that Villeneuve did with Blade Runner 2049.
Silka Luisa, showrunner of Apple TV+’s upcoming Elisabeth Moss drama series Shining Girls, is writing and executive producing Blade Runner 2099, which comes from Scott Free Productions in association with Alcon Entertainment and Amazon Studios.
