While Roborock released an even more upscale product called “S6” last May, the brand has not forgotten its popular S5 and its value for money very controlled. Thus, the firm incubated by the Chinese Xiaomi has undertaken to present a new S5 Max, an improved version of this product. Seeing its technical characteristics, the benefits are many and can complete the intelligent robot vacuum cleaner in its two main tasks: suction and cleaning mopping.
In the space of a few months, the autonomous technology of robot vacuums has been joined by the intelligence of connected objects. The range of Roborock is part of these new premium products, erasing by far the defects that could wipe the first models of the autonomous vacuum cleaner. No more robot problems stuck in a corner, rough cleaning, or falling down the stairs. And the vacuum cleaner configurations are adapted to the types of surface cleaned, completely independently.

Let’s start the presentations by addressing the subject of dimensions of this Roborock S5 Max. They will be of crucial importance to allow a sufficiently precise aspiration in the recesses of the rooms, just as to pass under the beds and furniture.
Compared to the Roborock S5, the new Roborock S5 Max does not deteriorate much its compact appearance, with a length of one centimeter more, established at 35.3 centimeters, a width of 35 centimeters, and a height of 9, 6 centimeters. A point which – we will come back to it – is a great success for Roborock, while the model carries capacities larger than the S5, in particular on the part of its water tank. In addition that the product will weigh 3.5 kg, no significant difference compared to the classic Roborock S5 again. Only the S6 is slightly heavier at 3.6 kg.

On the design side, Roborock has not changed its S5 Max compared to the classic S5, and the aesthetics are faithful to the rest of the range, including the S6. One will note the effort put on the purified and thus simple aspect of the model, which is moreover controlled only briefly by its physical buttons (an application is dedicated).

Now let’s get into the thick of it, and let’s first look at the reason for the release of the S5 Max. As the name suggests, the intelligent vacuum cleaner brings with it additional capabilities. For once, they are mainly about the water tank located on the back of the circular shape of the product. Going from double to single, it now allows the Roborock S5 Max to be able to assume the autonomy in water for an area of up to 250 square meters, or three passages on a 65 square meter apartment. An interesting autonomy, especially if you have a house on one level.

Located here and there of the product, Roborock says that 13 types of sensors are present on his smart vacuum cleaner, among which are an accelerometer, an odometer, an infrared sensor and a compass. It must be said that the robot maps 360 degrees housing or room supposed to be cleaned. This information will then be recorded, and the robot will only have to update the space according to the small changes made in the appearance or the displacement of obstacles.
A control application with multiple options
The attachment of Roborock with Xiaomi is found in particular on the software part. As we explained above, the physical buttons on the top of the vacuum allow only limited control of the device. But thanks to the Mi Home application, the “autonomous” aspect of the vacuum cleaner makes perfect sense. It is actually possible to schedule the activity of the model either temporarily or recurrently: cleaning start time, area and type of cleaning are parameters configured at the choice of the owner. The Roborock S5 Max is connected to the application via a Wi-Fi network.

How does the vacuum robot mechanism work? A rotor rotating a brush present at the front of the device, on the right side, to bring back the waste that is especially around the walls or near obstacles. This directs the dust towards the main brush of the vacuum cleaner, located just before the inlet of the suction. Speaking of suction, the S5 Max integrated fan runs at 1,500 rpm. According to Roborock, his power is enough to lift an AA battery.
