Rumours of Star Wars VII Plot Leak

Star Wars: Episode VII – The Gauntlet of Infinity

If you don’t want spoilers, then stop reading now. I’ll give you a few lines of leeway.

You’re still reading, so I shall assume you’re interested. Rumours have surfaced about a potential plot for Star Wars Episode VII, due for release in summer 2015. According to an article on IGN, the rumour is that the story will be that of Darth Caedus, aka, Jacen Solo. That’s right, the son of Han Solo and Leia Organa Solo.

For those unfamiliar with the expanded universe beyond the existing films, Han and Leia marry about five years after the Battle of Endor (ie: ROTJ), and soon afterwards have force sensitive twins, Jacen and Jaina. As soon as they’re old enough, the twins begin their Jedi training under Luke Skywalker, who has set up his new Jedi Academy in the Massassi Temple on Yavin IV. (Ie, the Rebel Base in ANH). To cut a long story short, Jacen falls to the dark side at age 17, and becomes the first new Dark Lord of the Sith, Darth Caedus.

According to IGN, Schmoes Know was forwarded a copy of a casting breakdown which their source claims is for Star Wars Episode VII, listing Jacen and Jaina as major characters. The site includes the following quote from this alleged casting breakdown:

“Storyline: Two 17 year old twins, a girl and a boy, are trained by their uncle Luke to be the greatest Jedis in the galaxy. Problems arise when the male twin turns to the dark side. Jaina Solo – Female, 17 years old, lead. – Jacen’s twin sister, one of the greatest Jedis in the galaxy, trained by her uncle Luke Skywalker.
Jacen Solo – Male, 17 years old, lead – Jaina’s twin brother, one of the greatest Jedis in the world. A loner who is constantly struggling with the idea of what’s right and what’s wrong. Starts to turn to the dark side. Full of conviction that what he is doing is the “right thing”. Will eventually become Darth Caedus.”

Personally, I am not convinced of the authenticity of this piece of evidence, largely due to the fact that it contains a fair few spelling, grammatical, and punctuation errors. More than one would expect from a professional casting director. But if I am wrong, and it is the real deal, we could well be in for an awesome new story arc.

But then, there is a wealth of that available for reading in the expanded universe. Let us also bear in mind that George Lucas stated from the outset that the script will be written based upon a treatment he wrote himself. So it is entirely possible that the new films will have nothing at all to do with the expanded universe at all, and tell stories no fan has heard before.

Only time will tell…
