The fifth movie of the Scream franchise is co-directed by Ready or Not filmmakers Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett from a screenplay co-written by James Vanderbilt (Zodiac) and Guy Busick (Ready or Not). The movie stars Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, David Arquette, and Marley Shelton.
“Twenty-five years after a streak of brutal murders shocked the quiet town of Woodsboro, a new killer has donned the Ghostface mask and begins targeting a group of teenagers to resurrect secrets from the town’s deadly past.”
Also in the new movie are franchise newcomers Jack Quaid (The Boys), Melissa Barrera (Vida), Jenna Ortega (The Babysitter: Killer Queen), Mason Gooding (Booksmart), Dylan Minnette (13 Reasons Why), Kyle Gallner (Ghosts of War), Jasmin Savoy Brown (The Leftovers) and Mikey Madison (Better Things).
The first movie of the franchise was released in 1996, was a surprise hit upon its release, helping to start the horror genre for the decade and becoming the highest-grossing slasher movie of all time until it was taken over by last year’s Halloween reboot. The first’s success spawned a franchise that comes with three sequels, the first of which remained as successful as the first while the previous two saw average box office movies and mixed reviews.
