Showtime has released the first trailer for its upcoming series adaption of Swedish author John Ajvide Lindqvist’s vampire book Let the Right One In. I have to say it looks good, the trailer seems interesting and exciting, and I want to see what happens next.
Demián Bichir (Godzilla vs. Kong) plays Mark in the series, which is set ten years after his daughter, Eleanor (Madison Taylor Baez), was bitten by a vampire. The pair move across the country, and Mark always has to find new ways to feed Eleanor’s bloodlust to keep her alive.
In the series, “Locked in at age 12, perhaps forever, Eleanor lives a closed-in life, able to go out only at night, while her father does his best to provide her with the human blood she needs to stay alive. With these emotionally charged and terrifying ingredients as a starting point, Let the Right One in will upend genre expectations, turning a naturalistic lens on human frailty, strength, and compassion.”
The series deviates from the book in many ways, which is good because we really don’t want to see the exact same story as the books. It also stars Anika Noni Rose (Dreamgirls, Power), Grace Gummer (Mr. Robot), Madison Taylor Baez (Selena: The Series), Kevin Carroll (Snowfall), Ian Foreman (Merry Wish-Mas) and Jacob Buster (Colony).
The show comes from writer and producer Andrew Hinderaker (Penny Dreadful), who wrote the pilot and will serve as showrunner and executive produce along with Seith Mann (Homeland), who directed the pilot and will also direct additional episodes.
Let the Right One In will air on Showtime on October 7th.
