Morbius is an adaptation of the Marvel anti-hero Morbius the Vampire. The movie is directed by Daniel Espinosa and script by Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama, based on the Marvel Comics character designed by writer Roy Thomas and artist Gil Kane who first emerged in 1971’s “Amazing Spider-Man” #101.
Dr. Michael Morbius, the scientist character who was trying to cure his rare blood disease only to become afflicted with a kind of vampirism that gave him improved strength, fangs and an appetite for the red stuff. The character fought Spider-Man many times, though ultimately earned many of his own books where he had a more heroic arc. He has an ongoing dispute with the character Blade the Vampire Hunter in the comics. The character appeared on TV in Spider-Man: The Animated Series and Ultimate Spider-Man Vs The Sinister Six, and was originally assigned to make his film appearance in Blade until his cameo was removed and plans to make him the villain in Blade II scrapped.
Morbius will hit theaters on July 31, 2020.
