Spider-Man: No Way Home featured the comeback of a variety of characters from past Spider-Man movies, that includes The Lizard from Sony’s The Amazing Spider-Man series, which nearly looked completely different.
In a post made on Instagram, Ian Joyce — the Visual Development Supervisor at Marvel Studios — shared some early concept art for what The Lizard might look like in No Way Home. The version that we got in the movie remained more true to its original movie, but during early exploration for the character, it seems as if Marvel went back to the comic book rendition of the character.
As is clear from the concept art, the early rounds of concept art had Lizard going back to his comic book days, finished with purple pants, a white lab coat, and a much more lizard-like body than anything we’ve seen in the movies so far. However, a change was clearly made to keep him more in line with his The Amazing Spider-Man look.
Spider-Man: No Way Home saw the comeback of Tom Holland as the darling titular wall-crawler, along with Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange. It was directed by Jon Watts from a screenplay written by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers.
The movie also starred Zendaya, Jacob Batalon, Marisa Tomei, Jon Favreau, Tony Revolori, and Hannibal Buress along with Sony’s Spider-Man Universe alums Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield, J.K. Simmons, Alfred Molina, Willem Dafoe, Jamie Foxx, Thomas Haden Church, and Rhys Ifans.
Spider-Man: No Way Home holds a worldwide gross of over $1.8 billion at the box office.
