This is the most anticipated horror movie this year it is produced by Guillermo del Toro and the feature film is the adaptation of the classic horror anthology book series, Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark. This looks so good that I can’t wait to see it.
If you grew up with these books then you know these books scared the shit out of readers and I’m hoping that this movie takes the essence of the books and tell us the terrifying tales like the books did. One of the things that I’ve appreciated from what I’ve seen from the movie so far is that it brings that terrifying art style and designs from the Alvin Schwartz books to life! The movie really looks like it’s going to traumatize the younger audience If its rating is suitable for kids that is.
The movie is directed by André Øvredal, who is known for making The Autopsy of Jane Doe (Which was awesome )and Trollhunters (mehh) and this is a new synopsis that was released:
It’s 1968 in America. Change is blowing in the wind…but seemingly far removed from the unrest in the cities is the small town of Mill Valley where for generations, the shadow of the Bellows family has loomed large. It is in their mansion on the edge of town that Sarah, a young girl with horrible secrets, turned her tortured life into a series of scary stories, written in a book that has transcended time—stories that have a way of becoming all too real for a group of teenagers who discover Sarah’s terrifying home.
The cast of the film includes Zoe Colletti, Michael Garza (Wayward Pines), Austin Abrams (Brad’s Status), Gabriel Rush (Moonrise Kingdom), Austin Zajur (Brad’s Status), and Natalie Ganzhorn (Make it Pop).
The story follows a character named Stella (Colletti) who is “a young girl still haunted by her mother’s disappearance on Halloween night — an incident that she suspects her father knows more about than he lets on. Years later, Stella and her friends are involved in a Halloween prank gone wrong. But are they really at fault, or was it the work of a vengeful spirit — a female ghost who uses her scary stories to come after the teens when they begin to investigate the disappearance of several children?”
The story for the film is said to follow “a group of young teens who must solve the mystery surrounding sudden and macabre deaths in their small town.”
As we’ve seen in the previous promo art and videos the film features several references to the memorable stories from the book series.
Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark comes out in August 2019!
