The 12 Coolest Batman Gadgets

To celebrate this week’s release of ‘The Dark Knight Rises, we’ve come up with a list of some of Batman’s coolest tools and gadgets. Whether he’s fighting off baddies or even just a shark, Batman has some of the most enviable gadgets around.

1 Grappling Gun

One of Batman’s most basic gadgets is his grappling gun, which allows him to repel down buildings with the greatest of ease or skyrocket himself to the top with the simple pull of a trigger.

2 Batarang

Another one of the more simple — but definitely effective — tools in Batman’s arsenal is the ol’ Batarang, used to disarm his foes or knock ’em in the head, or even to dislodge crucial items. The Batarang has been integral to Batman’s body of work for many years, becoming sleeker and more efficient over time.

3 Computer Programmed Batarang

Speaking of the Batarang, this computer programmed Batarang from ‘Batman Returns’ is pretty awesome. Batman is able to put in several targets for his trusty weapon to take out, all in one swoop. Talk about efficiency.

4 Explosive Gel

This explosive gel comes from the video games ‘Batman: Arkham Asylum’ and the sequel ‘Batman: Arkham City.’ Batman sprays it on the wall in a cute little Batman shape, steps away, and… BOOM! Oh, was there a wall there? Not anymore.

5 Bat Signal

Perhaps the most crucial element to Batman’s crime fighting (besides that awesome brain of his, and Alfred) is the bat signal. Commissioner Gordon uses it to call upon Batman when he’s desperately needed to fight crime, and without it, Batman would be sitting at home, watching TV, blissfully unaware that his city needs help.

6 Bat Beacon

Used most notably in ‘Batman Begins,’ the bat beacon is a sonar device that calls all the bats from his bat cave to serve as a distraction or a hindrance to his enemies. Plus it looks really, really cool.

7 Shark Spray

Don’t laugh! If you had some of this stuff you know you’d totally take it into the ocean with you. In the old ‘Batman’ movie starring Adam West, our caped crusader used this stuff to ward off a gnarly shark attack. It may sound silly, and it’s not some incredible technological invention, but it’s damn useful.

8 Batmobile

The Batmobile is the classiest set of wheels you’ve ever laid eyes on. And it’s got gadgets within gadgets! Take that, ‘Pimp My Ride.’ (Side note: Remember ‘Pimp My Ride’? That was a time.) The Batmobile is Batman’s preferred — and speediest — method of rushing to the scene of the crime.

9 Batpod

If the Batmobile doesn’t impress you, surely this Batpod will do the trick. Introduced in Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Dark Knight,’ the Batpod isn’t just a fast and furious mode of transportation — it also allows Batman some incredibly fierce maneuvering skills. Just wait until you see what this bad boy can do in ‘The Dark Knight Rises.’

10 Cell Phone Sonar Tracking Device

When Batman faces the Joker in ‘The Dark Knight’ and fears he’ll be unable to locate him in time to save the lives of hundreds of hostages, he convinces a reluctant Lucius Fox to activate a tracking device that accesses all the cell phones in the city, allowing Batman to pinpoint the Joker’s location.

11 Kryptonite Gauntlets

When Batman finds Superman in his cave in Frank Miller’s ‘The Dark Knight Strikes Again,’ he unleashes one of the coolest weapons to ever appear in his arsenal: Kryptonite gauntlets. Kryptonite is, of course, Superman’s greatest weakness, and after he betrayed Batman he totally had this beating coming.

12 Memory Cloth Cape

Created by Lucius Fox as a military prototype, this cape was custom-made for Batman and constructed with a special memory cloth that allows Batman to glide through the air to stealthily approach buildings and possible enemies.
