We are not sure if Peter Weller will be reprising the role of Murphy in the upcoming RoboCop Returns from District 9 director Neill Blomkamp, but one actor from the franchise will be coming back to RoboCop’s suit of armor.
Blomkamp had an informal Q&A session on Twitter, and the question of the Robocop sequel came up a few times.

First, Blomkamp said that the “script is being written. Going well! Imagine watching Verhoeven do a follow-up film,” which will likely subside some speculation over the upcoming film. But when asked about the original suit, the director was quite definitive in his response.

So, whoever will play the Robocop will be doing so from the convenience of his vintage grey armor, as Blomkamp assures the suit will be “1 million% original.”
After first playing RoboCop back in 1987, Weller reprised his role in 1990 for RoboCop 2, but he didn’t close out the trilogy with RoboCop 3. Because Weller was starring in Naked Lunch, Robert John Burke took over the role of RoboCop. Joel Kinnaman starred in the RoboCop reboot back in 2014, which changed up the suit but failed to make much of an impact at the box office. With Blomkamp on board for RoboCop Returns, it’s possible the revival will be more kindly received than the reboot.
We do not know who’ll be inside the suit for RoboCop Returns, at the very least they’ll be dressed like Robocop from 1987.
