Abel Tesfaye, also known as The Weeknd, is making his way to the big screen with his first-ever starring role in a feature film. Not only is he starring in the film, but he is also co-writing and producing it. Joining him in the cast are Jenna Ortega, the star of Wednesday and Scream VI, and Barry Keoghan, who recently appeared in The Banshees of Inisherin.
The movie is being directed by Trey Edward Shults, the filmmaker behind critically acclaimed movies like Waves and It Comes at Night. The project is still untitled, and the storyline is shrouded in mystery, leaving fans eagerly waiting for more information. The only thing we know for sure is that the film is being shot in Los Angeles.
Abel Tesfaye’s producing partner Reza Fahim is co-writing and co-producing the film with him, while Kevin Turen and Harrison Kreiss are also producing. Chayse Irvin is handling the cinematography, and the score will be composed by Daniel Lopatin, who goes by the stage name OPN, alongside The Weeknd himself. OPN has previously worked on the scores for acclaimed films like Good Time and Uncut Gems, where The Weeknd had a cameo role as himself.
In addition to his big-screen debut, The Weeknd is also set to appear in the upcoming HBO series The Idol, which he co-created with Sam Levinson and Reza Fahim of Euphoria fame. With his impressive track record in the music industry and his creative talent, fans can’t wait to see what The Weeknd has in store for his fans on both the small and big screens.
