Tom Cruise is Collaborating With Elon Musk’s Space X To Shoot a Movie in Space!

Tom Cruise

While we joked about Tom Cruise going to space in a future Mission: Impossible film, in reality, the actor is joining up with Elon Musk’s Space X program and NASA to produce the first narrative feature movie to be shot in outer space!

This is all for real and the project is already in early development. There’s no word on what the story for the action-adventure movie will tell, But it is insane! I love the idea!

It’s going to be exciting to see who else ends up being cast in the new movie to join Cruise in outer space. I’m sure that by the time the movie begins shooting, Cruise will be licensed and ready to fly the space shuttle into space himself.

This isn’t the first time Cruise has played with some crazy ideas like this. Twenty years ago director James Cameron talked with Cruise about the likelihood of making a movie in space together. A couple of years ago Cameron said:

“I actually talked to [Cruise] about doing a space film in space, about 15 years ago. I had a contract with the Russians in 2000 to go to the International Space Station and shoot a high-end 3D documentary there. And I thought, ‘Shit, man, we should just make a feature.’ I said, ‘Tom, you and I, we’ll get two seats on the Soyuz, but somebody’s gotta train us as engineers.’ Tom said, ‘No problem, I’ll train as an engineer.’ We had some ideas for the story, but it was still conceptual.”
