Paramount Pictures has released a series of character posters for the upcoming movie, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, featuring iconic characters like Optimus Prime, Mirage, and Optimus Primal. As the latest installment in the popular Transformers franchise, the film promises to take audiences on a thrilling 90s globetrotting adventure, introducing new characters and species like the Maximals, Predacons, and Terrorcons into the existing battle between Autobots and Decepticons.
Directed by Steven Caple Jr., known for his work on Creed II, the movie will put the spotlight back on the beloved character of Optimus Prime, paying direct homage to Generation One, and exploring his experience on Earth. Caple Jr. explained his approach to the character, saying that he wanted to “dig underneath the surface, get underneath the metal” and discover more about who he is and what drives him.
The director revealed that the movie would be set in 1994, and would bring audiences back to the roots of the franchise, showcasing the emotional tie that Optimus Prime has to planet Earth. Caple Jr. emphasized that the movie would be a prequel to the previous Transformers films, showing how Optimus Prime became the protector of Earth and humanity.
The director went on to talk about Prime’s emotional tie to planet Earth, saying: “When you say got to where he is, you mean ‘we need to protect these earthlings and this biological planet.’ The way to look at it is he’s new to earth and he doesn’t have a connection to earth the way we met him in the Bay films and the way we met him in the animated series where he’s already a protector of Earth. And so in this film, it’s forming, why does he have a link to humanity? And why does he have a link to earth? And that’s emotional…At the beginning of Bumblebee, we showed, he escaped from Cybertron his home planet. And so in a sense, he’s literally like an ex-pat here, right? He’s landed. He’s, he’s an alien and he’s never been here before. And so it allows us to get underneath say the stoicism of what we’re traditionally presented in an Optimus.”
The movie boasts an impressive cast, including Anthony Ramos, Dominique Fishback, Luna Lauren Valez, and the legendary voice actor Peter Cullen reprising his role as Optimus Prime. Ron Perlman will also be joining the cast as the voice of Optimus Primal, a fan-favorite character from the Beast Wars spin-off series.
Fans of the Transformers franchise are eagerly anticipating the release of Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, hoping that it will live up to the high standards set by the previous film, Bumblebee. The movie is set to hit theaters on June 9, 2023, and promises to be an action-packed thrill ride for audiences around the world.
