A reboot of the classic 80s action series Miami Vice is currently in development at NBC. The team behind the Fast and Furious franchise is producing the series, including Vin Diesel and screenwriter Chris Morgan, are developing the series as Executive Producers.
I enjoyed watching Miami Vice in the olden days. It was a fun series that starred Don Johnson as James “Sonny” Crockett and it had a pretty solid run from 1984 to 1990. Throughout the course of its run, the series also featured actors like Edward James Olmos, Gene Simmons, Pam Grier, Laurence Fishburne, Viggo Mortensen, and John Leguizamo.
There was also a feature film directed by Michael Mann in 2006 with Jamie Foxx and Colin Farrell. I wasn’t a big fan of that flick as it was fairly boring and very forgettable, which was a shame because I think Michael Mann is a great director.
There’s no information on what the series will entail, but I imagine it will follow the same formula as the original series. According to Variety, Peter Macmanus (The Mist) will write the script for the series.
