Warner Bros. has unveiled a new version of that deleted scene from The Batman featuring Robert Pattinson’s Batman talking to Barry Keoghan’s The Joker in Arkham Asylum. This new version comes with the commentary from director Matt Reeves.
One of the things that I found fascinating was what Reeves had to say about Joker’s new look and how his scarred face isn’t scarred from acid, he was disfigured from birth. He shared: “The Joker would have been marked from childhood.”
He added that his inspiration for the character was Conrad Veidt’s The Man Who Laughs with a mix of The Elephant Man. Reeves explains that the Joker was born with a menacing smile on his face, which influenced the way he looked at the world from the way others around him were looking at him, saying “he was a terrifying freak since he was a child.”
