Will There Be a Stand-Alone Darth Maul TV Show?

Darth Maul

Star Wars remains one of the most profitable franchises in the history of Hollywood. George Lucas’ iconic characters first graced movie screens in 1977. Thanks to the Walt Disney Company’s acquisition of the franchise in 2012, new content continues to be produced.

Although it started as the Skywalker saga, Star Wars now encompasses many unforgettable fictional characters. Disney has built upon the franchise’s foundation on their streaming platform, Disney+, with shows like the recently released The Book of Boba Fett.

Another iconic character who could use his own stand-alone TV show is Darth Maul. Here’s a look at this formidable warrior.

Darth Maul’s Lasting Popularity

Darth Maul burst onto the scene as a mysterious, hooded figure in Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace (1999). Viewers soon found out this menacing figure was in fact the apprentice of Sith Lord Darth Sidious.

This warrior with a dark side wowed audiences with his acrobatic fighting style and startling double lightsaber combat. Owning a Darth Maul Lightsaber Replica became the dream of most Star Wars fans.

Maul seemingly met his untimely end at the hands of Obi-Wan Kenobi, but fans saw his return in the animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars. That series revealed Darth Maul had survived his supposed killing on Naboo. He went on to spar against another fan-favorite character, Ashoka Tano.

Darth Maul appeared again in the animated show Star Wars: Rebels and made his return to the live-action side of the franchise with a cameo in Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018). This appearance paved the way for a possible TV show. He remains the most popular character to come from the prequel trilogy.

Hope for a Darth Maul TV Show

With the success of live-action Disney+ shows like The Mandolorian and The Book of Boba Fett, it seems like only a matter of time before the Star Wars franchise sees a stand-alone Darth Maul adaptation.

Maul stands out as one of the most visually striking characters in the franchise. After his seeming demise in Phantom Menace, he’s repeatedly popped up to sow more discord. Any potential series might explore the scheming Sith Lord and Dark Side in ways never seen before.

His cameo in Solo could see a show built around Darth Maul’s time as the leader Crimson Dawn, one of the galaxy’s biggest crime syndicates. That’s something George Lucas had reportedly hoped to accomplish in a sequel trilogy.

The character likely makes appearances in several of the upcoming Disney+ Star Wars shows. There have been reports of a Darth Maul show in early development for the platform, and Ray Park, who portrayed Maul in the live-action films, has even teased a return to the character on his Instagram.

Star Wars and Much More

Despite not being part of the Original Trilogy, Darth Maul remains one of the most popular and lasting Star Wars characters of all time. His unique look and engaging evolution carved out his place in the Star Wars pantheon.
