The first full-length trailer for the Winnie the Pooh movie, Blood and Honey, has been unleashed. It’s a slasher take on the iconic children’s story by A.A. Milne, and the first trailer is very unsettling.
Craig David Dowsett and Chris Cordell star as humanoid versions of Pooh and Piglet. Christopher Robin, played by Nikolai Leon, leaves them behind when he goes off to college. Pooh and Piglet turn feral, going back to their animal roots, and setting out to kill people for food.
“They’ve gone back to their animal roots. They’re no longer tame: they’re like a vicious bear and pig who want to go around and try and find prey,” he said.
Winnie the Pooh entered the public domain at the start of 2022. This opened it up to creators to do with it as they wish, so long as their creations don’t take the story and character elements from Disney. This is why Pooh doesn’t have a red shirt in the movie and why Tigger doesn’t appear, because he is still covered under copyright.
Blood and Honey filmed for 10 days in England and wrapped production in May. It’s directed by Rhys Frake-Waterfield and produced by UK-based Jagged Edge Productions.
Blood and Honey is “coming soon” to DVD and video-on-demand around the world, though a precise release date hasn’t been announced yet.
