Momentum Pictures has unveiled the first trailer for Witch Hunt, coming to VOD/Digital on October 1 starring Gideon Adlon, Abigail Cowen, Christian Camargo, and Elizabeth Mitchell. The movie is set in modern-day America and witches are real and hunted down by the government.
In it, we see an old method of checking out a witch by throwing her into water. It was believed that a witch would float because they had refused baptism and an innocent would sink. Though we see each girl sink, it would seem that the test in this movie is designed to see if the witch would use her powers to make her float before drowning.
It will be exciting to see if the movie chooses to incorporate other methods people have used to determine someone was a witch but in a more modern way, I could surely see a horror film making use of the prick test in which a victim was poked and scratched with needles searching for a place that was resistant to pain and didn’t bleed.
Here’s the official synopsis:
In a modern America where magic is real and witches are persecuted by US authorities, teenager Claire and her family are part of an intricate network that helps these women escape across the border to seek asylum in Mexico. However, when their mode of transport is disrupted by federal witch hunters, trouble befalls the family as they struggle to hide two young witches within the walls of their home. As witch hunters close in and strange magic begins haunting the family, Claire discovers that she may have more in common with these witches than she could have ever imagined.
